The next couple of days seemed like they took forever because everyone could not wait to get to Hawaii. Everyone that is except for Kim. Kimberly enjoyed those days thoroughly, because she was dreading to go to Hawaii with the gang. After what had happened the other night at the club with Tommy, Kimberly wasn't sure if she was going to be able to face him again. As she sat on her bed, she wondered about what had happened that night [How could it be that one moment it seemed like nothing had changed. It just felt so right being back in his arms again. Then the next moment, as soon as Kat had came outside, he was back to that pacid, expressionless grin. And I still don't know what te quiero mi amore means! I thought for sure Billy's parents would know. The gang probably thinks I am crazy now too! I can't believe I haven't left the house in three days. This whole predicament with Tommy is getting to me more than I thought it was] Kim thought as she looked at the pair of pale pink sweats she had on along with a plain white T-shirt. She walked over to the mirror and noticed her disheveled hair and said aloud, Ugh, along with my nasty looking hair, my whole complexion is getting so pale. I look terrible! Not to mention the fact that I've only been drinking water and have had only two sandwiches in the past three days. What must Billy's parents think? They must be so worried!' Even though Kim knew they were worried she hadn't been able to tell to go out and face them, even though they had repeatedly asked what was bothering her. All she had been able to do for the past three days was cry. She had even gone as far as unplugging her phone so that no one could call her.
"Kim . . . Tanya, Adam, and Rocky are here to see you," Sarah called out.
"Tell them I am not here," Kim replied.
Sarah glanced at the three with a worried expression because all three had just heard what Kim had said. "Um, why don't you three come in and sit down for a minute. I'm going to go try and converse with Kim." The three shared a look of concern and went inside and sat down. Sarah climbed the stairs of her home, walked over to Kim's door, and knocked on it softly. "Kim, may I come in?"
"No! Go away," Kim managed to croak out.
"Sorry honey, but I am not taking no for an answer," she said opening the door. She saw Kim lying on her bed face down, went over to her bed, and began to stroke her back gently. "Kimberly, ever since Billy introduced you to me five years ago you've been this bubbly, cheerful, girl full of life. In all of the years I have known you, I've never seen you like this. What's bothering you sweetie?"
"Sorry Sarah,but I would rather not talk about it with you," Kim said into her pillow.
"All right. I know how stubborn you are so I am not going to press any further. Listen though, your friends are down there very concerned and waiting to see you. Now you can't put off facing the world forever, you're going to have to confront whatever is bothering you sooner or later. You're going to Hawaii in three days Kim. That means you're going to have to confront whoever is bothering you soon."
Kim sniffled and wiped her nose. Then she said, "How'd you know it was one of my friends?"
"Well it was just a feeling, but I think I know which one of them is troubling you."
"Who . . . who do you think it is," Kim said alarmed.
"Well, I went through the same thing with my husband as you're going through with . . . Tommy," Sarah said speaking the last word softly.
"You did," Kim said sitting up finally.
“Yes, I did. However, I realized I had to tell Brian or else I would lose him. I gathered up my courage and told him which you are also going to have to do with Tommy.” “I know. I know,” Kim said.
“Well . . .are you going to get dressed and meet your friends, or am I going to have to send Rocky up here singing,” Sarah asked jokingly.
“Of course I’ll get dressed! Anything but that !”
As Sarah walked towards the door, Kim said, “ Thanks Sarah. You know for the talk.”
“Anytime,” Sarah said kissing Kim on the forehead.
“ I think the question is more like how have you been,” Tanya asked gently.
“Oh the usual . . . I was just unpacking and . . .”
“Kim, are you sure you’re all right,” Adam asked.
“Yes, I am fine,” Kim replied harshly wishing everyone would just get off her back.
“Yeah, I mean she can’t be going through what Tommy . . .” Rocky started to stay and then stopped wishing for once he could just keep his mouth shut!!
“Rocky . . .” Kim said.
“Hey Adam, I am r-e-a-l-l-y hungry. Do you think you could pull over . . .”
“Rocky,” Kim said and then using both hands grabbed his shirt and pulled him towards her quickly, “I f you don’t tell me what Tommy said . . .”
“I am going to regret it for the rest of my life. I know, I know. Now look, I will tell you but could you please loosen the grip on my collar. I can’t breathe,” Rocky said, his eyes bulging out.
“Of course,” Kim said removing her hands and slightly patting down his shirt, “Now tell me!”
“Well the first day you got here after you ran off, I followed Tommy to the Youth Center. He was crying, and we talked, and . . .”
“And . . .” Kim said.
“ Kim, this guy is so hopelessly in love with you it’s not even funny.”
“Really,” Kim asked, her eyes lighting up.
“ Really,” Rocky said patting her knee slightly.
“That’s great! That means that I just have to . . .”
“Wait a minute! Could somebody rewind, because I am so totally lost,” Tanya said with a look of confusement on her face.
“I don’t know. I mean, you’re best friends with Kat, and I just don’t know . . .” Kim said trying to find a way to say the last few words so that she would not hurt Tanya’s feelings.
“If you can trust me,” Tanya finished smiling. “Kim, I may be best friends with Kat, but I am hoping that in the future we’ll also have that kind of relationship. I respect people’s privacy and wouldn’t do anything to lose their trust,” Tanya said.
“I think you can trust her,” Adam said patting his girlfriend’s hand.
“Well . . .all right,” Kim said returning the smile to Tanya, “I li . . .”
“She still loves Tommy, and Tommy still loves her, but their both just too stupid and shy to tell each other how they feel,” Rocky said bluntly.
“Thanks a lot Rocky,” Kim said punching him in the shoulder.
“Ouch!” Rocky said rubbing his arm, “I was just telling the truth.”
“Does umm . . . Katherine know about this,” Tanya asked.
“No!” Rocky, Kim, and Adam shouted.
“You’re not going to tell her are you,” Kim asked, regretting now that she had told Tanya her secret.
“No, I told you I don’t squeal on friends. I was just wondering if Katherine could be so dense that she couldn’t see that something was wrong with her boyfriend.”
“Yeah, she could be,” Adam said, “Sometimes I wonder if the only person she cares about is herself. I mean before she was always looking out for everyone and making sure that everyone was all right. Now though . . .” They pulled into the parking lot of the Angel Grove Galleria, got out, and went inside. For the next couple of hours, the girls went from store to store having a blast. Unfortunately for the guys, they needed up carrying all of the packages.
“Now I think the Clinque counter is having a sale on sunblock, so we could get ours there,”Kim said leading the way.
“Gosh Kim, you know this mall inside and out don’t you,” Tanya asked.
“Well I should, I spent god knows how many hours here,’ Kim said laughing.
“Yeah, unfortunately for us,” Rocky griped to Adam as they tried to keep up with the girls.
“Now 20 or 30 protection,” Kim asked and just as she did Kat walked up with Tommy straggling behind her with packages balanced carefully in his arms.
“Hey guys, see we both had the same thing in mind,” Kat remarked looking at all of the guys.
“Yeah, I almost feel sort of sorry for them,” Kim said.[How many times did I have Tommy following me around like that ?] Kim thought as she smiled at Tommy.
“You should,” Rocky said, “We have shopping to do too!”
“For instance . . .’ Tanya said.
“Well . . . we need new bathing suits,” Adam said.
“Fine. We’ll just go put our things in the cars and help you pick some out,” Kim said smiling. They three took their packages out of the boys’ arms to their relief , put them in the cars, and returned to the guys.
“Why don’t you guys pick out something, and then if they’re all right we’ll okay them,” Kat said.
“Cool,” Rocky said as the three boys wandered off while the girls stood together talking.
“What do you think Kimmie,” Rocky asked holding up a pair of board shorts in a loud Hawaiian print.
“Are you serious,” Kim said taking them and hanging them back up on a rack. After a through search of the racks, Kim held up a pair of shiny blue board shorts with white stripes running down the sides and said, “ Go try them on.”
“In front of you,”Rocky said in disbelief.
“Yeah. You’re going to have to get used to it since we’re going to be on the beach most of the time we’re there,” Kim said.
“All right,” Rocky said reluctantly heading into the changing rooms.
“You too,” Tanya said to Adam.
Adam gulped loudly looking at the white pair he held with green stripes, “Okay,” he whispered.
“I guess this means I am supposed to too,” Tommy said following the boys with his black pair of board shorts with red racing stripes down the sides.
“You got it,” Kat said. After a couple of minutes, Rocky finally came out.
“So what do you think,” he asked.
His shorts fit just right showing off his firm body and tight tush. “You look great Rocky,” Kim said, “ By the way, nice tush.”
“Really,” Rocky said admiring himself in the mirror, “ Yeah I guess it is pretty good.”
“Do I have to come out,” Adam asked meekly from behind his door.
“Yes, come on honey. We’re not going to bite,” Tanya said.
Adam came out, his bathing suit showing off his cut physique that had resulted from countless hours of karate and weightlifting. Not to mention fights with you know who . . . “You look gorgeous,” Tanya said walking up to Adam and kissing him on the cheek.
“You think,” he asked.
“I know,” Tanya said.
“So, how do you like it,” Tommy said walking out.
[Oh wow . . .] Kim thought as she looked at Tommy. His body, tan from spending numerous hours in the sun, looked like it was in better shape then it had been the last time Kim had seen him in a bathing suit. If that was possible. Every muscle was clearly defined, and as Tommy turned around Kim realized that Tommy still had the tightest behind she had ever seen. Kim felt her hormones raging wildly and said, “ You look so good!”
“Thanks Kim,” Tommy said blushing.[She thinks I look good? Well, that must be a good sign. I’ll definitely have to make it a point to where these shorts as much as possible.]
“That’s what I was just going to say,” Kat said walking up to him and kissing him. Kim immediately looked away. The boys got dressed and paid for the pants, and all six walked over to the girl’s department.
“You guys could stay around if you want,” Kat said looking around at the bathing suits.
“You really don’t mind three teenage guys sticking around to watch you try on bathing suits,” Adam said in shock.
“Nope, we completely accept our bodies the way they are and we’re satisfied with them,” Kim said.
“Yep,”Tanya and Kat agreed.
Rocky ran over to the seats in front of the dressing rooms, grabbed the middle one, and then said, “Well then hurry up girls,” he said rubbing his hands together, “Let the games begin!”
Kim rolled her eyes as she wandered from rack to rack. She eyed a pink one-piece then glanced at Kat.[Nope, there’s no way I am ever going to be seen in pink again. . . Besides] Kim thought with a mischievous grin on her face,[Why am I looking for a one-piece . . .]She spotted a two -piece that was black and had boy-cut bottoms and a triangle top. There were three red, identical racing stripes on each side of the bottoms, and the top was outlined in red.[Now this should get someone’s attention] She picked it up in delight and headed towards a stall noticing that Kat and Tanya were already in one.
“About time, Rocky said.
“Oh shut up,” Kim said walking in and closing the door.
Tanya burst out of her stall and turned around. “So, what do you think?”
“Tanya . . . you look . . . beautiful,” Adam said speaking the last word softly, dumbfounded by the sight of his girlfriend.
“Good. Your opinion is the only one that matters to me,” she said kissing him on the cheek.
Rocky looked at the regular two-piece that was a yellow pastel, “Yeah, you look really good.”
“You look great Tanya,” Tommy said adding his own compliment. Just then Kat walked out in a pink one-piece that had white racing stripes down the sides.
“So . . .” she said.
“Excellente,” Rocky said admiring Kat.
“Yeah Kat, it looks perfect on you,” Adam said.
“You look wonderful,” Tommy said meaning it. Kat’s lean body filled out every curve and the light pink color complimented her fair skin nicely.
“Really,” she said unsurely.
“I am positive,” Tommy replied.
“Okay, I’ll get it,” Kat said happily. She looked at the long line that was starting to form at the cashier’s counter and said to Tanya, “We better go change and pay for these.”
“Right,” Tanya said. They both headed back to their stalls and started to change back into their clothes. At that moment, Kim strutted out to model her swimsuit for the boys and said in a seductive voice, “So, what do you think guys,” giggling afterwards at the sound of her own voice. All three boys just stood their unable to speak, mesmerized at the site of Kim in the two-piece. The gymnastics had really paid off, because Kim’s legs, arms, and stomach were all clearly defined. Yet they hadn’t kept her from maintaining a women’s figure, because she still had curves in all of the right places, and the boys were finding it hard to keep their eyes off her chest. Kim became very nervous and said, “Guys . . .”
“Kim you look . . . ugh . . .ugh,” Adam said blushing furiously.
Rocky knelt down onto his knees, started bowing up and down, and chanted, “We’re not worthy, we’re not worthy!”
“Rocky shut up,” Kim hissed. She glanced over at Tommy who was just sitting there and gawking. “Tommy, what do you think,” Kim asked shyly.
“Umm . . . ugh . . . you look,” Tommy said stumbling over the words.[You look so hot Kim!! What I wouldn’t give to go up and wrap my arms around you . . .just like I used too!!]
Rocky got up and went over to Tommy, grabbed his face, and in a VERY fake Italian accent, “Look at this boy! He’s blushing so hard he’s the color of a cherry tomato! He also can’t even speak a regular sentence. Do you even need to ask him what he thinks? Obviously he thinks you look stunning.” Kim and Tommy both started blushing furiously, although Kim was rather pleased at Tommy’s reaction. Then Kim eyes traveled down the length of Tommy’s body, and her eyes bulged out as she noticed the growing bulge in Tommy’s pants.
“Tommy, you umm . . . well,” Kim said and then burst out laughing.
“What, what is it Kim,” Tommy said glancing around self consciously.
“You umm ,” Kim said unable to stop laughing, “You have a ,” Kim said and then finally sunk to the ground because the laughter hurt so much. She finally pointed to the bulge in Tommy’s pants and Adam and Rocky immediately started laughing.
“OH SHIT,” Tommy said jumping up.
“Geez Tommy, can’t you keep your little friend under control,” Rocky said, glad to finally be able to get a dig in on his leader.
“Obviously someone is pleased with Kim’s appearance,” Adam said wiping the tears away that had formed from his laughing.
“Oh . . . shut up,” Tommy said stalking off.
Kim had seen the embarrassment in his eyes as he had walked off, so she got up and yelled , “Tommy, wait up! It’s no big deal!” Tommy didn’t turn around and walked out of the store. She turned around and faced Adam and Rocky who were still laughing and said, “Good one guys,” but then she also began to laugh again at the thought of the look Tommy had had on his face. Kat and Tanya walked out with puzzled expressions and looked around at the three.
“What’s so funny,” Tanya asked.
Adam quickly composed himself and replied, “Nothing.”
Kat glanced around and asked, “ Where’s Tommy?”
“ Ugh . . . he said he wanted to wait outside,” Rocky said.
“ I better go get changed,” Kim said and hurried into the dressing room. Kat and Tanya got in line, and Rocky and Adam waited nearby, unable to face Tommy. Kim quickly caught up with the others, and they all walked out and met Tommy outside.
“I . . .ugh . . . checked out the movie listings and that new one about the alien takeover is just about to start, so if we hurry, we can make it.”
“ Sure, that sounds great,” Kim said and then silently mouthed to him “I’m so sorry.”
“It’s all right,” he mouthed back. This completely relieved Kim, because the last thing she wanted to do was hurt Tommy.
“Let’s go then,” Rocky said. The group walked over to the multiplex, bought their tickets, and went inside to find some seats. Tanya stopped alongside one aisle and walked down it with Adam right behind her. As soon as they sat down, Adam put his arm Tanya and she snuggled into his shoulder. Kat next entered the aisle with Tommy in tow, and they both sat down. Rocky entered next to Kim’s relief, but then he took the aisle seat, leaving the seat next to Tommy’s open.
“Rocky,” Kim whispered harshly.
“Yes Kimmie,” he answered mischievously.
“Move!”
“No!”
“Please!”
“No!”
“Ugh!!” Kim grumbled and took the seat next to Tommy. She put her arm on top of the armrest and leaned the side of her face on top.
“ Move it Rocky,” Tommy said knocking the arm next to him off the armrest. Then he realized how soft and smooth it was and turned to see that he was sitting next to Kim.
“ Oh geez Kim. I’m sorry, I thought that you were Rocky. you can have the armrest,”
he offered graciously being the gentleman he was.
“ No really, it’s all right. You take it.”
“ Kim, I insist!”
“So do I Tommy!”
“ Look, why don’t we just share it?”
“Okay,” she said laying her hand on top of it. As soon as Tommy laid his down next to hers, he felt little sparks like electricity run through his body; Kim on the other hand got goosebumps from Tommy’s touch.
[I don’t know why Kim makes me feel this way , but it sure feels good. It doesn’t just feel good though, it feels . . .right, like this is the way it’s supposed to be]
[Oh thank you Rocky! If you hadn’t taken the aisle seat I wouldn’t have gotten to sit next to . . .ohh! Now if only I could work up the nerve to tell you how much you mean to me, how much I need you] Kim thought as she and Tommy both exchanged grins. The movie started, and of course at the first sight of a alien every girl in the audience screamed.[Why are women such wimps? I mean that thing doesn’t even look real and yet every girl jumped at the sight of it] Kim thought. She still couldn’t believe that people were actually frightened by this kind of stuff.
“All right,” Rocky yelled at the first sight of the alien. [However some people never get afraid]Kim thought as she smiled up at Rocky. Another alien popped up from behind a corner, and Kim felt something grasp her knee. She looked up and saw that Tommy had latched onto her knee, frightened by the scene. [Oh my goodness! Tommy’s still afraid of horror movies! That is so cute!] Kim thought remembering the countless times that they had gone to the movies and seen horror movies. Every time Tommy had been scared by something he had immediately grabbed ahold of her, so Kim had had to hold his hand and tell him it was going to be okay. Kim expected Tommy to remove his hand, but he didn’t. Kim unsure of what to do mumbled, “Umm Tommy.”
Tommy looked down and noticed that with Kim being back he had just instinctively grabbed her leg. He grinned sheepishly and mumbled, “ Sorry, it was just out of habit.”
“ It’s okay. I am sort of glad to see that your still afraid of some things.”
“ I am afraid of a lot of things,” Tommy said. “ Like telling you how much I am hoping that we’ll get together” he said under his breath.
“ Huh,” Kim whispered.
“ Nothing,” he replied.
The next time Kim glanced over, she noticed that Tommy had his arm around Kat.[It’s okay, I can deal with that] Then she looked up and saw that Kat had started to kiss Tommy relentlessly, [I can’t deal with that though! Stop it Kat ! I . . .I] “Tommy I love you,” Kim choked out in a whisper. Kim then stood up and left. Kim had failed to notice that Tommy had repeatedly tried to push Kat off of him, and when he finally was able to he said, “What Kim,” because he had heard her mumble something. He saw that she was gone and glanced up to the doors to see that she was standing there with tears in her eyes. He started to get up in order to chase after her, but it was too late. Tommy gloomily sunk into his seat with tears in his eyes and whispered, “Why can’t I ever do anything right?”
