Disclaimer: Okay, I know this is starting to get old. I do not own these characters, Saban Entertainment does. This is Part 4 of my story, A Ranger Romance. It took me a long time to write it, so please send as much feedback as you can. The songs are not mine either; they belong to Savage Garden. The first one is called Crash and Burn and the second one is The Best Thing. I would also like to send out a special thanks to another fic writer, Starfire, who helped me with this one due to my incessant writers block. Thanks, and now onto the reading.

A Trip Down Memory Lane
by: Kimber

When you feel all alone
and the world has turned its back on you
Give me a moment please to tame your wild wild heart
I know you feel like the walls are closing in on you
Its hard to find relief and people can be so cold
When darkness is upon your door and you feel like you can't take anymore.

Let me be the one you call
If you jump I'll break your fall
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night
If you need to fall apart
I can mend a broken heart
If you need to crash then crash and burn
You're not alone.

When you feel all alone
And a loyal friend is hard to find
You're caught in a one way street
With the monsters in your head
When hopes and dreams are far away and
You feel like you can't face the day

Let me be the on you call
If you jump I'll break your fall
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night
If you need to fall apart
I can mend a broken heart
If you need to crash then crash and burn
You're not alone.

Because there has always been heartache and pain
and when it's over you'll breathe again
You'll breathe again.
Jason and Kim walked out of her apartment and past the front desk. The girl at the desk just looked at the two, smiling before going back to her book. The song that she had been listening to on the radio continued to play. Jason opened the door for Kim, and the two made their way down the road to the restaurant. As they walked, they talked about past events and things that were going on in Angel Grove. Jason also thought about the song that had been on the radio. Some of it reminded him of how he felt about Kim; he just hoped he'd be able to tell her that someday.
When you feel all alone
And the world has turned it's back on you
Give me a moment please
To tame your wild wild heart

Let me be the one you call

Lift you up and fly away with you into the night

You're not alone."
"So how's everyone in Angel Grove?" Kimberly asked. "Pretty good," Jason answered, "the old Rangers have been retired, so they've been onto other things. There's a new team of Rangers in Angel Grove now." He knew what the question was leading up to: Kim wanted to ask about Tommy. It hurt him to know that she still thought about him, but he had to expect that. She and Tommy had been close for a long time.
"Never want to fly
Never want to leave
Never want to say what you mean to me.
Never want to run
Frightened to believe
You're the best thing about me."
"And how's Tommy. Is he seeing anyone?" she asked him shyly.

"Yeah, he's in London right now with Katherine. She's practicing ballet there and he's in a racing competition." Jason told her.

Kim smiled. It was good to know that the decision she had made had been the right one. After she had written the letter she hadn't been sure. When she had returned to Angel Grove with Jason during that whole Muriathias episode, she had expected that the two were close but hadn't stuck around long enough to find out. Wanting to change the subject to lighter things, she looked at her friend. "So how about you Jase, are you still with Emily?"

Sometimes I feel like this is only chemistry
Stuck in a maze searching for a way to
Shut down turn around feel the ground beneath me
You're so close where do you end where do I begin?
Always pushing and pulling
Sometimes sanity and takes vacation time on me
I'm in a daze stumbling bewildered
North of gravity head up in the stratosphere
You and I roller coaster riding love
You're the center of adrenaline
And I'm beginning to understand.
Jason winced slightly at the mention of that name, "No, we broke it off not too long ago. It just wasn't working out between us." His words were only half right. Things had been kinda bad between him and Emily, but it hadn't been for the lack of trying. Emily had just been so possessive at times that eventually, he had just tired of it, telling her that it was over. His heart hadn't been in the relationship anyway; it had already been taken by someone else, by Kim, though he couldn't tell her that, yet.
Never want to fly
Never want to leave
Never to want say what you mean to me.
Never want to run
Frightened to believe
You're the best thing about me.
"I'm sorry to hear that Jason. I thought you were happy." Kim felt bad for him, but another part of her was singing. Maybe soon she would be able to tell Jason how she felt. Now wasn't the time though; he was probably still grieving over the loss of Emily.
Walk on broken glass make my way through fire
These are the things I would do for love
Farewell peace of mind kiss goodbye to reason
Up is down the impossible occurs each day
This intoxication thrills me
I only pray it doesn't kill me
The two got to the fast-food restaurant and walked in. After they had picked up their order, they sat down in the dining area. The two ex-Ranges started reminiscing about when they were kids, and all the goofy things they had done. The conversation soon turned to a small fry fight, which turned ugly when Jason picked up a fry drenched in ketchup, ready to throw it at her.

"Don't you dare, Jason Alexander Scott!!" Kim warned, using his real middle name that only she knew. Jason had never told the rest of the gang because he hated the name Alexander. He only allowed Kim to use it.

"Aw, come on!" Jason replied with a smile.

"Were in public Jason. If you want to throw things at me, do it in private," she answered.

Jason raised an eyebrow, "Fine, I will." He stood up from the table.

Kim stood up as well, "What? Where are you going?"

"I'm taking your advice, were going back to the gym where I can throw things at you," he smirked.

"Jase, you're nuts," was all she said as the two walked out of the restaurant.

Never want to fly
Never want to leave
Never want to say what you me to
Never want to run
Frightened to believe
You're the best thing about me.
As the two friends walked, they continued to talk about different times in their lives. They talked about the first time they had met in the sandbox when they were four. That had been an amusing time; Bulk and Skull had been bullying the other kids, starting with Kim.

***FLASHBACK***

A four-year-old Kimberly Ann Hart sat in the sandbox in Angel Grove Park. Her mother sat on a park bench a few feet away, talking to another mother. Kim sat, putting sand into her pail, when a bigger four year old kicked it away from her. His little friend laughed and started throwing sand at her.

The big kid spoke up, "Whas matta baby? Ya gonna cry now?" His friend echoed him; Kim sat in the sand, near tears when she suddenly heard another voice speak out.

"Top tat, leave her lone." A little boy dressed in a red T-shirt and blue jeans walked up to them, his arms folded across his chest. Kim looked up and smiled. But Bulk wasn't scared; he walked up to the other kid with a smirk.

"Who gon make me, you?" he sneered at the boy.

The other kid seemed calm and replied, "No, but you do tat again, I'll cry so loud, my mommy will hear en she'll make you." He smiled as the two other kids sneered then walked away. The little boy crouched down next to Kim. "You kay?" he asked with a soft smile.

Kim smiled back, "Yea, tank you."

"S'okay, my names Jason what yours?" he asked.

"I'm Kimmie." She replied.

***END FLASHBACK***

They had played in the sand all day, eventually becoming good friend. It had turned out that their moms knew each other, and that they had been the ones talking to each other that day.

Jason sighed at the memory. "I can't believe we even remember that."

"Neither can I." Kim said with a smile.

As the two friends passed the beach, Jason had an idea. "Kim, how about a swim?"

"Jase, might I mention, that there are no bathing suits here." Kim said as she gave him a weird look.

"Come on, it'll be fun. I've got my boxers and you.... well.... um..." He blushed slightly, realizing what he was saying.

"I have my underwear and bra, right." Kim said smirking but then sighed. Looking at the small blush her friend had on his face, Kim caved. "Oh...alright, but you have to look away when I'm getting undressed or something."

"Okay, lets go." He grabbed her hand and the two made there way down the hill to the sandy beach. Once they got there, Kim scurried behind a large boulder to undress, while Jason took his pants and top off and jumped in the water.

Kim stood behind the rock, biting her bottom lip. * I can't believe I'm doing this. * She said tugging at the bottom of her top. Smiling to herself she unbuttoned her top and tossed it to the ground. Then she took her shorts off and put them with her top. She peaked out from behind the boulder. "Okay, close your eyes till I say so mister." She watched as Jason, who was now swimming around, close his eyes. Stepping out from behind the rock, she ran for the water quickly and dived in. As she resurfaced she yelled out, "YOW, THATS COLD."

Jason just laughed and splashed her with water. Kim splashed him back and soon they were going at it, dunking and splashing each other.

"You are so dead Jase." Kim said as she swam toward him intent on dunking him.

"I don't think so." He smirked as he grabbed her and tossed her underwater. She squeaked out a few pitiful pleas for mercy before taking another plunge in the cold water. Sputtering back to the surface, Kim splashed him." YOU ARE SO DEAD JASON ALEXANDER SCOTT!"

She swam after him and finally caught up with him. Jumping on his shoulders with her gymnast strength, she dunked him underwater but not for long. He bounced back up, knocking her back and underwater again. When she resurfaced she had seaweed on top of her head and Jason burst out laughing.

"What's so funny mister?" she asked.

He pointed to her head, still laughing. "Going for a new look Kim?

"What do you call it sea urchin?" Kim put her hand on top of her head and took the seaweed off her head, laughing along with him. "Be careful Jase, or your gonna be covered in seaweed by the time I'm through with ya." The two friends began another splashing contest and before long the sun was starting to set.

Jason swam over to her, "Wow, this has been really great, but we'd better pack it in, its getting late."

Kim nodded, her teeth chattering. "Yeah and I'm starting to get cold and hungry."

The two swam to shore and Kim got out first. Jason watched her, gulping as he looked at her in her underwear and bra. *GOD, she's beautiful. I want to tell you so much Kim, but I just don't know how.*

Jason picked himself out of the water as Kim scampered behind the rock to get redressed. When she got there she peaked back out to take a look at him. *Ooh, he always did look good after swimming. * She blushed, *Gosh, I don't believe I just thought that. Face it girl, you're in love. If only I could tell him that.* She quickly brushed her thoughts aside and got dressed.

You're the center of adrenaline
and I'm beginning to understand
You could be the best thing about me

Never want to fly
Never want to leave
Never want to say what you mean to me
Never want to run
Frightened to believe
You're the best thing about me
When she was done she stepped out from behind the boulder and back over to Jason. "Yuck, I hate the feeling of dry clothes over wet ones." Kim said shaking her T-shirt "

Yeah but we can change when we get back to your place. Come on." He took her hand and they made there way back up the hill and onto the sidewalk.

"Well, that certainly was fun, now wasn't it?" Kim asked as she led him back to the apartments.

"Yeah, you could say that. I'm a bit waterlogged now but it was fun." He replied.

They got to the apartment complex, and were about to the open the door to go in, when another couple bumped into them, knocking Kim back into Jason. He quickly caught her in his arms, "Whoa, you okay?"

"Yeah...I'm...fine." she said looking into his eyes then looking at the couple.

"Sorry about that." The other guy said and the girl nodded her apology before they took off again.

Jason helped Kim back up. "Geesh, some people in this place, I'll tell ya." Kim said as she opened the door again. Jason gulped again. She had looked into his eyes and he had gazed back. *Did she know how he felt. No she couldn't.*

When they walked in, Janice stood up, looking at the two waterlogged adults. "What on earth happened to you two?"

"We went for a small swim Janice, what does it look like?" Kim said as she moved passed the girl, heading down the hall.

"Looks more like you took the plunge, you're dripping water everywhere. Coach will have a fit. Get dried off." She shooed the two down the hall, sighing as she looked at the wet carpet.

Kim laughed as they approached the door to her apartment. "We do look horrendous don't we?"

"Speak for yourself." Jason said in a little girlie voice. "I think I look gorgeous."

"Oh shove it." Kim laughed before pushing him inside.

Jason snickered as he pretended to fall on the floor inside. Kim looked at him and smiled, "Get your wet self off my nice floor and go get changed, you can use the bathroom.."

"Okay." Jason simply replied, picking himself off the floor and grabbing his small suitcase. He watched Kim go into her room to change, and then stepped into the bathroom. Putting his suitcase down on the floor, he slid down to the floor on his butt. How was he going to tell her how he felt? He couldn't just blurt it out. She would think he was joking around. Maybe he should call Tommy. *No, I've got to do this on my own, and in my own way. * He stood up and began to get cleaned up.

Kim, meanwhile, was having similar thoughts. *How am I going to tell him how I feel? He's probably still getting over Emily. I can't just proclaim my feelings and expect anything...but I want to so much.*

Kim quickly got out of her wet clothes and got dried off. Then with the same haste she got on some comfortable pajamas. Sitting down at her small vanity she ran her brush though her wet hair, wincing as it caught on a piece of seaweed.

"Ouch, stupid hair." She pulled the seaweed out and threw it in her garbage can. Pulling her hair up in a ponytail, Kim stood up from her vanity, took a deep breath and walked out into the main room of her apartment. Jason was not there yet. *Must still be getting dried up. Maybe I should tell him now. No, not yet. Its not the right time, yet. * She moved over to the dish cabinet, pulling out a bowl and a bag of popcorn. She threw the popcorn into the microwave and turned it on, just as Jason came out of the bathroom, in a black tank top and black boxers. His hair was wet and slicked back. Kim almost drooled at how good he looked but she quickly covered it up with a smile. "All dry now?"

"Yup, nice and toasty warm." He replied, sitting down on the couch. *Man, she looks good. * He thought, gazing at Kim as he passed. She had put on a cute white spaghetti strap top with loose, gray, shorts. He blushed slightly but shook it off, "Whatcha making?"

"Popcorn, I thought we'd have some popcorn and watch movies. You know, like we did when we were eleven." Kim said pulling the bag of popcorn out of the microwave slowly. It burned her fingers and she quickly dropped it back on the counter with a small squeak. "Ow" she said putting her burnt finger in her mouth.

Jason got up quickly and moved over to her. "Are you okay?" He asked with concern in his eyes.

"Yeah, the bag...it was hot and it burnt my finger," she replied, wincing in pain.

"Here let me have a look." He took her hand in his and for a moment they looked into each other eyes before he looked down at her hand. "It should be okay, not badly burned. Put some cold water on it." He smiled then turned and walked back over to the couch.

Kim blushed slightly as she watched him sit back down. * God, give me strength not to just blurt out how I feel. * Turning back to the popcorn, Kim took another deep breath and carefully poured the popcorn out into the bowl.

Never want to fly
Never want to leave
Never want to say what you mean to me
Never want to run
Frightened to believe
You're the best thing about me
You could be the best thing about me
You could be the best thing about me
What if you're the best thing about me?
You could be the best thing about me
Jason, meanwhile had moved over to where her videotapes were. *Hmm, what can we watch? * He had looked through a few before Kim came over with the popcorn and sat down.

"So, what will we be watching?" she asked

"Don't know...wait a minute." He smirked when he notice a certain tape. "I think I found the perfect thing." Picking up the tape, he turned around with it in his hand. Kim immediately recognized it. "Oh, no we are not watching that. No way." Kim got up, reaching out to take it from him.

"Oh come on, you know you and Trini had a blast at my twelfth birthday." He grinned at her and moved the tape out of her grasp.

"Yeah, right. You and Zack pulled that horrible prank and scared the living begeebers out of us. The only fun we did have was getting you two in trouble for that little joke." Kim got up and reached for the tape again. He again moved it out of her reach.

"Please, Kim, we'll fast-forward over the prank. You had fun the rest of the party, PLEASEEEEEEE?" He asked with puppy-dog eyes, he knew Kim would give in to. She sighed, he knew her to well.

"Fine, but you'd better fast-forward past that part." Kim sat back down, while Jason quickly popped the tape in the VCR and hopped onto the couch beside her.

They watched as twelve year old Jason, opened all his gifts, as he blew out the candles on his cake, and watched as he disappeared off the screen with a twelve year old Zack.

"Okay you can start fast-forwarding now." Kim said. She waited for the tape to speed up but it didn't. Turning to Jason, "Jase, fast-forward, you promised. Come on." She urged. Though knowing that he probably wouldn't, a part of her wasn't angry at all.

"But Kim this is the best part. Okay here it comes, you and Trini are going to eat your cake...wait for it. BAM!" Jason started laughing at there younger selves. Twelve year old Kim and Trini were screaming and yelling "Eww" while running all over the place on screen, while younger Jason and Zack were in the corner of the scream laughing their little butts off.

Kim looked at the screen and sighed. There sitting on two pieces of birthday cake, on screen, were two small rubber toads. "I still can't believe you two did that to us. It was just mean. I had nightmares for months" Kim said, trying desperately not to laugh. It wasn't working and soon she to was giggling along with Jason.

"You got to admit though, we had you grossed out." Jason replied between laughing fits.

"True, true." Kim said, laughing right along with him. She reached for some popcorn and just as she did, so did Jason. There hands brushed and they looked at each other, their laughter slowly fading.

Jason pulled away first and looked back at the screen. Kim pulled her hand away slowly. She cleared her throat and Jason got of the couch and over to the VCR as the tape ended. " Lets see what else can we watch?" asking no on in particular.

The two friends watched tapes till 1:00 am before Kim realized the time. "Goodness, its late. We should get to bed if were ever going to get up later." She got up from the couch, stretched and yawned.

"Yeah, wow, its been a fun day." He stretched out on the couch pulling the small blanket over him, that Kim had provided. "See you in the morn...well...later on today Kim."

"See you later Jase.," she said as she walked to her room and closed the door.

Jason watched her go and sighed. Laying back on his pillow all kinds of thoughts went through his head. * Tomorrow, I have to tell her tomorrow, even if it kills me. God don't let her reject me. I don't think I could take it. * He slowly drifted to sleep with visions of Kim running rampant in his dreams.

Kim too was lying down to sleep. * Please let me be able to tell him how I feel. He has to know. I just hope he feels the same way. * Her eyes slowly closed and her dreams where filled by only one person, Jason.
