Juste une prière avant d'obéir
A l'ordre des choses et de nos pères
Avant de partir
Kai bent his head as he tried to keep the tears from falling. He had barely managed to get through his shift. Commander Stanton had offered both him and Mike a few days off to deal with their grief, but Kai had refused. He knew the best thing for him right now was to just keep on working.

He did not understand. Why Kendrix? Why not him, or Leo or hell, any of the rest of the team? Why not Cassie? He knew he was being unreasonable, but he could not help it. His best friend was dead, and he could not stop it. He had not been able to save her, and that was what hurt the most.

Juste une autre vie sauvée de l'oubli
Gravée bien mieux que par une lame
Dans la mémoire d'Abraham
Hands shaking Kai sat down on his bunk and ran his hands through his hair. *It's not fair! She was the most promising scientist here. She had so many people that loved her. She had her whole life in front of her and yet, she was taken in the prime of her life! Kendrix died a hero, but that does not change the fact that she's dead and she can never come back.

*God, I miss her so much. She was my confidant all during basic training and then in the GSA. I can still remember when we were both chosen to come on Terra Venture. We were ecstatic, and then we met Mike. Through it all, we were friends, and close friends. It's just not fair!*

Longue l'attente de l'heure
Lourde la peine en nos cS.urs
Mais si grands notre amour notre foi en toi
Et difficile de te comprendre parfois
"I don't understand it. Why did you have to die? I hurt so much. I didn't want to lose you, not now, not ever." Kai whispered. Slowly he picked up a framed picture of Kendrix, Mike and him, taken the day before they left Earth.

"You didn't even get a proper burial. There was nothing left to bury. But we gave you a fitting burial in space. We sent a small capsule with your name and rank, even your identity as the Pink Galaxy Ranger, into space. There it'll float forever, just like our thoughts will always be with you.

"I just wish I had a chance to say goodbye, Kendrix. You were gone before we even got there. Only Cassie was there. I resent her for that. I shouldn't, she was hysterical and depressed enough as it was, but I can't help but think that it should have been her. She should have been the one to save her own powers. Why did you have to do it? Why did you do it?"

He shook his head. They would never know now. Kendrix had told them that she was in a better place, not to worry about her, but she had not said that they should not grieve for her.

They were all grieving in their own way. Maya hardly spoke to anyone, preferring the quiet of the forest dome, to her lonely room. Leo was furious and ready to take apart any of Trakeena's monsters. Kai could not blame him. Leo had been, not so secretly, crushing on Kendrix since he first laid eyes on her. Nothing had ever come of it and now nothing ever would. Damon was cracking jokes, trying hard to keep everyone's spirits up. Both him and Mike were just trying to pretend that it never happened, that life went on. In reality, they were just trying to work themselves to exhaustion so that they could fall asleep without the dreams of what was, and never could be again.

Que sera demain nos destins plus loin ?
Un peu de paix d'amour et de pain
Au creux de tes mains
Tears fell, but here in the darkness of his own apartment he did not have to wipe them away. He could grieve for his friend in peace and not have to be the tough GSA military type. Softly he traced the picture and her face as he contemplated the future. A future without her.

He knew that they would have to find a new Pink Ranger; the only problem was that they did not know where Kendrix's saber was. He had assumed that she had taken it with her. After all, it had been in her hands when she...said goodbye.

Kai was not even sure he knew how to go about finding a new Ranger. They had kept their identities secret, although he was convinced that Counselor Ranier knew who they were.

He silently traced the picture one last time before he set it back on the counter. "I won't forget you, Kendrix."
