First thing is first: I don't own the Power Rangers, Saban does. I am not making any money from this, it's just something that I love to do.

Okay, this fanfiction takes place during Season 2, after Zack, Trini, and Jason have left for the Peace Conference, and before Kat takes over for Kimberly. Lord Zedd and Rita are together, and the Rangers are using the Ninja Powers (Although the way this fic is heading, I don't know how much of the Zords we will see) Enjoy!

Night One
by: Cricker

The coldness bit into her skin, and Kimberly stumbled down the dark path. At least she thought it was a path, because she couldn't see anything. The only reason she was going this way at all was because of the faint ticking she heard, which was getting louder with every step she took.

"Hello!" she screamed. Not even an echo returned to her ears and she felt so alone. It felt like she had been walking for hours when a thin beam of light shot out of the eternal darkness. It hurt her eyes at first, but she was drawn to it, clinging to it like a life line. The beam got bigger and bigger as she got closer, and the ticking was becoming deafening. Then she saw the source of the light. It looked like an open doorway, but the edges swirled around like oil paints so that Kimberly could not see where the doorway ended.

"Go through the Portal Kimberly," she jumped at the sound, so close the owner of the voice could have been speaking right into her ear. She twirled around, and she had to shield her eyes. Hovering off the ground, with flowing white garments, a woman looked down upon her.

"Who are you?" Kimberly blinked and tried to look at the womans features. She had seen her before, but where?

"You do not have much time," the woman started to come closer when a low taunting laughter filled the air. The woman disappeared leaving Kimberly standing alone again.

"This is crazy, I'm too tired for this!" Kimberly heard the voice, but could not believe it. She turned back to the doorway, or portal as the woman had called it. She saw Tommy laying on his bed, tossing and turning. It looked as though he had been trying all night to get to sleep and not having much luck.

"Tommy?" she stepped toward his image, reaching out her hand to touch his face. She gasped as her hand went through the image, and into open space. She continued to reach her arm through until she was up to her elbow.

"Step away from there!" the same voice that was laughing before growled deeply. She jumped back, holding her arm to her chest. The portal rippled but Tommy's face remained clear. It seemed as if he was finally falling asleep, and as he did the Portal started to shrink. The words of the mysterious woman flooded back to her mind, and Kimberly couldn't help but think if she could be trusted.

"I am warning you!"

It only took her a second after the warning for her to decide. Better to take her chances with the portal than to wait for an attack. Taking a deep breath, she stepped forward and put one foot into the portal.

"Not so fast!" she felt something slash at her leg and she quickly pulled it into the portal. She turned her head, and saw only a pair of eyes, glowing yellow. Then she was falling, plunged back into the inky darkness that had enveloped her before.

"Next time," the voice was distant but still sent chills up her spine. "No one can escape from their own mind! You will be mine!"

Her eyes snapped open and she sat up. It took her a few moments to realize that she was in her own bed, in her own house. Slowly she pulled the covers off and shook her head.

"That was so freaky!" she stood and stretched, looking at the clock. "Oh my gosh!" she ran for the bathroom, discovering she only had ten minutes to get ready before Tommy came and picked her up for school. Jumping into the shower, she quickly turned on the water, and reached for the shampoo. A shooting pain above her right knee made her drop the bottle. She hissed as the pain became worse, and she turned off the water. There were three slash marks surrounded by black and blue, and her mind flashed back to her dream.

"No way!" she stumbled as she stepped from the tub, and nearly fell onto the floor. She stared in disbelief at the wound. It had only been a dream, hadn't it?

"Kimberly?" her mother knocked softly on the door. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah mom!" she called out and grabbed a towel.

"Okay, but hurry. It's almost time to leave,"

She wrapped herself in towel, and returned to her room with a bottle of peroxide and bandages. It took her a long time to clean it up and get it bandaged, that by the time she stood to get dressed, the familiar beeping of a horn from the street made her jump.

"Aghh," the exasperated growl escaped her throat as she threw on the first things she could find. Running to the window, she waved down so he knew she was coming. Taking a second to examine herself in the mirror and apply a little makeup, she grabbed her back pack and ran down the stairs, out of the door. Tommy had started up the walkway when he saw her.

"I was getting a little worried," she smiled as he opened the passenger side door for him. "You aren't usually late."

"Something really weird is going on," she watched him yawned as he situated himself into the drivers seat. "Are you okay?"

"Me? Oh yeah," Tommy smiled and started the motor. "I just couldn't get to sleep at all last night."

"You're kidding!" she exclaimed. "Oh Tommy please tell me you're kidding!" she turned away from him and looked out the window. Her eyes lifted to the second story of her house to where her bedroom window was. Tommy heard her gasp, and leaned over to see what she was looking at.

"What's the matter?" he couldn't see anything out of the normal, but Kimberly was trembling. Standing where she had been only minutes earlier, was the woman from her dream. Then she was gone.

"We have to get to the Command Chamber!," her voice was barely audible.

"Kimberly, what is going on? What about school,"

"I think we are going to be late."

Tell me if you hate it, love it, what you would do differently. I am sorry that this chapter is so short, but I assure you that I am leading up to something really good (I think so anyway!) Till next time!
