This story was inspired by two things. One, the song it is named after is one of my favorite songs by the great Celene Dion, called "If That's What It Takes", written by Jean-Jacques Goldman & Phil Galdston. The idea of incorporating a song into my story actually came from one of my favorite FanFics, "I'll Remember", by Kittie. To this day, I cannot hear that Madonna song without thinking of Kittie's great fic. In fact, I bought the CD because of it. Thank you all for the enjoyment you've given me.

If That's What It Takes
by: Casey

It is a typically gorgeous day on the beach in Angel Grove, and many of the city's residents have come here to picnic, play volleyball, or just enjoy the sun. One particular group of teens gathers to enjoy the day also, although they keep a bit of distance between themselves and the other students from Angel Grove High School. Although this makes some of the Angel Grove kids label them as "stuck-up" or even "snobs", it cannot be helped. These teenagers, you see, are secretly The Power Rangers, and they have taken an oath never to reveal themselves to anyone.

"Wow, Tanya, this is fantastic! What is it?", asks Rocky between mouthfuls.

"It's an old family recipe from Africa that my grandmother once taught me," smiles Tanya. "The main ingredients are gazelle livers and rhino's tongue....."

Immediately, Rocky stops chewing, eyes bulging and cheeks bloated with his last bite of Tanya's dish. His eyes plead with his friend, hoping she was teasing........

"Yur kddin, rit?", he asks, unable to decide whether to swallow or spit out the food.

"Relax, Rocko", laughs Kimberly. "It's just regular chicken salad that we added some spices and herbs to! You can swallow it......"

"Yeah, before you give yourself a hemmorrage or something!", teases Adam.

Rocky swallows, and takes a deep breath of air.

"That....was not.....funny, guys!", he scolds.

Tanya gently rubs his shoulder as she apologizes to her breathless friend. "I'm sorry, Rocky; I just couldn't resist.....".

"Besides, who would've figured there was something that you wouldn't eat....?", chides Tommy.

"Ha, ha. Very funny." Rocky tries unsuccessfully to keep a grin from breaking through his pretend pouting as the others all enjoy a good laugh.

"Hey, did anyone see where Jason and Emily went?", asks Justin, running up the beach from a game of frisbee with Kat.

"Um, last time I saw them, they were going for a walk, Justin, why?", asks Kim.

"Aw, man, I was hopin' we could get a game of volleyball goin', and I wanted Jason on my team. He's the best player we've got!", enthuses the boy.

"Gee, thanks, squirt....", grins Tommy. "Well, it looks like you'll have to settle for just us adequate players. Once Jase and Emily go off alone, who knows how long they'll be gone....."

"Yeah........Besides, knowin' Jason, he's got a game of his own goin' on...."

"Huh? I don't get it......", asks Justin, slightly puzzled.

A light tap on the back of his head whipes the smirk off Rocky's face. "Hey! That hurt!"

Adam, seeing both Kimberly and Kat glaring at Rocky, immediately speaks up.

"Well, let's get that volleyball game started, huh, guys?"

"Yeah, before Rocky's mouth gets him into more trouble.....", whispers Tommy under his breath, smiling.

Meanwhile, miles offshore, a periscope peers out above the waves.

"Elgar! Have you found them yet?!?"

"I'm tryin' to, boss, but....Hey! There they are!"

Shoving her monstrous henchman aside, Divatox grabs the viewfinder from him.

"You idiot! That's not the Rangers! That's only their friend Jason and his dizzy blonde girlfriend! He isn't even a Ranger anymore!", she screams.

"....that didn't stop him from helpin' them back on Murianthus, though....", whispers Elgar to himself......

"What.....was......THAT???", booms Divatox, her ponytail whipping the air as she spins to face Elgar.

"Uh....Uh....Nothing, my queen.....!"

"The former Gold Ranger is nothing, do you hear me?! NOTHING!! Why, I could crush him and his little girlfriend if I wanted to! Then what would those Power Brats do? They'd be devasted!! They'd be so demoralized, that they'd......never.....recover.........Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....."

Divatox strokes her chin as an evil plan forms in her head...........

* * *

At that moment, Jason and Emily are sharing a deep, intimate kiss.

"Mmmmmmmmmmmm....Have I ever told you, Mr. Jason Lee Scott, what a great kisser you are?"

"Weeellllllllll....not recently, no.........", smiles Jason, blushing slightly, "........but I really think I need a bit more practice......."

"Oh, you do, huh? Well, don't you think we should get back to the others and finish practicing later?"

"Naahhhhhhhh..........." he grins, reaching out to pull her close to him again.

"You......are......incorrigible!" Emily laughs, and begins to tilt her lips towards Jason's when there is a sudden smell of rotting fish and a flash of green light. Jason immediately breaks off the kiss and turns towards a group of Piranhatrons, his hands instinctively curling into fists.

"Piranhatrons! Hey, can't you guys see we're busy, here?", jokes Jason, trying to keep Emily calm.

"Jason?? You know these.....these things??", asks Emily as the Piranhatrons begin to edge closer.

"Uuhhhh.....Only what I've seen on the news, Em. Just stay back and let me handle 'em, okay?"

"Shyeah, right........", responds Emily, looking at him like he has two heads. Then, she picks up a nearby log and starts swinging, landing a blow to one of the monster's heads.

Silently smiling to himself, Jason dives into the group, using his martial arts to defend himself and the woman he loves. Two of the Piranhatrons dive at him from either side, but Jason jumps above them, allowing them to collide with each other. As he lands, another comes at him, but a spinning kick knocks that one to the ground. Once again, two more rush him from either side. The former Gold Ranger drops beneath them and punches them both squarely in the chest. They fly back, slamming into two more of their number.

As the battle goes on, Jason realizes that, although he and Emily fight fiercely, they will soon be outnumbered.

"Emily!", Jason shouts. "Get out of here! Go get some help!"

"No way! I'm not leaving you!"

"You've got to! I'll hold them off! Now, go!", he orders.

For a second, she hesitates. Then, seeing even more of the monsters materialize, she runs off in the direction of their friends.

Nearby, the seven youths finish an exhausting round of volleyball.

"Whew! That was intense!", smiles Rocky as he pats the sweat off his forehead.

"Yeah, it was! You sure you're feelin' okay, Rocko?", worries Tommy, wiping down his bare chest.

"Yeah, I'm fine, Tommy. My back's doin' a lot better, and the doctor says I can exercise more, long as I don't overdo it....."

"Cool. I'm glad you......"

Suddenly, Tommy is interrupted by a woman's screaming. Looking down the beach, they see Emily running toward them, waving her arms.

"Guys! Help! Jason's in trouble!"

"Look! It's Emily!", cries Tanya.

"Guys, Jason needs help! C'mon!", yells Tommy, already falling into his "leader voice".

The seven friends begin running towards the frantic Emily. But, before any of them can reach her, a group of Piranhatrons teleports between them and Emily.

"Oh, no!", cries Kat. "Piranhatrons!"

"Get away from her, fish-brains!", yells Kimberly.

However, the group quickly overwhelms the defenseless Emily, grabbing her and teleporting away before any of the Rangers can reach them.

"No! Emily!", yells Tommy, the concern in his voice evident.

"She's gone!", Justin cries. "Tommy, what're we gonna do?!?"

"I dunno, Justin, but we've still gotta help Jason! C'mon!"

Racing around an outcropping of rocks, the group finds Jason being help by four Piranhatrons, just as another five are about to attack anew.

"Guys! Am I glad to see you!", enthuses Jason.

"Hang on, Jason! We'll take care of these overgrown sardines!", reassures Kimberly.

Using her gymnastic skills, she does a triple-somersault past the approaching monsters, landing in a fighting stance directly between them and the struggling Jason. A high kick slams into one of them, sending him flying.

"Attagirl, Kim!", cheers Rocky. As he slams the heel of his palm into one of the Piranhatrons holding Jason, Adam takes out another with a roundhouse kick. With only two of the monsters holding him now, Jason easily uses his strength to slam the remaining two together, knocking them out.

Only feet away, Justin and Tanya double-team on two monsters, Justin dodging and weaving as he sets them up for Tanya's tiger-like blows. Meanwhile, a sweep of Kat's foot and one of Tommy's familiar high-kicks finishes the remaining two.

"Whew! Thanks, guys! I can't wait to get home and shower off the smell from those fish-brains!", says Jason, pretending to wipe the smell off his bare chest and arms. "Hey, is Emily okay?"

The seven teens glance back and forth at each other, none of them wanting to break the bad news to their friend. Jason, however, knows them well.

"Guys? What's wrong? What happened to Emily? Tommy?..... Kim?"

Kimberly places her soft hand on her friend's shoulder. She knows one of them must tell him the truth, and she also knows that Jason will take it best from either Tommy or herself.

"Jase, the Piranhatrons........", she hesitates, not wanting to hurt this man who is like a brother to her.

Jason's concern causes his temper to flare. "What, Kim? Just tell me, dammit!"

Tanya steps forward, steely determination in her eyes.

"Jason", she says softly, "the Piranhatrons took Emily. They teleported her away right before we found you....."

Tommy and Kimberly both feel a pang of guilt and foolishness at their hesitancy. Jason had to know, and Tanya was right to tell him, but they both wish they had found the courage to tell him themselves.

"No......."

Tanya's words barely register as Jason's mind struggles to take them all in. He suddenly finds himself very afraid for Emily, a hundred horrible possibilities flooding his mind. He turns away from his friends, staring blankly into the ocean. If this were Rita or even Zedd, he would know what to expect. He'd fought both of them long enough to know that this would just be a ploy to bring the Rangers to them. But Divatox..........Divatox was an unknown quantity as far as he was concerned. He'd only fought against her once, on the island of Murianthus, and that was only briefly. There was no way for him to figure out just what she would do with Emily. He could only hope that she shared Rita and Zedd's penchant for playing games with their enemies. He could only hope that Divatox didn't just kill Emily outright as a lesson to them all........

"Jase? C'mon, man. We've gotta get to the Power Chamber and figure this out....."

Tommy's strong hand on his shoulder snaps Jason back to reality. Just as Tommy's had done before, Jason's tone of voice immediately fell into his own version of "leader mode", which commanded no less respect from all of them than Tommy's had. In fact, Kim, Adam and Rocky all secretly believed that Tommy always tried his best to sound exactly as Jason used to when he commanded the team........

"You're right, Tommy. Kim, Rocky, this could get dangerous. You should both sit this one out...."

Kimberly's eyebrows raise. "You're kidding, right, Jason?"

A small, heartfelt smile passed between the two of them and Jason knew that arguing with her was useless. When Kim had that look in her eye, even Jason knew enough to back down.

"I'm in on this, too, Jase. This is the first action I've seen since the hospital!", piped Rocky.

"Uhhhhh, that is exactly why I'm benching you, Rock. Until we know that you're completely recovered, we can't afford to take chances with your back......", says Tommy.

"No way! You're not leavin' me behind on this!"

"Rocky, listen", says Adam sypathetically. "You were great just now, but if something happens during another fight, we could all be in trouble. Let us handle this; if we need you, we'll use the communicators to call, okay?"

Glancing downward, Rocky realizes that Adam is right. If he does fall in a battle, he could get them all killed.

"Okay......", he smiles half-heartedly. "But you guys be careful. Remember, you won't have me to pull your butts out of the fire, this time...."

"We will, Rocko, don't worry.", says Tommy. Then, "Let's do it, guys!"

There are seven flashes of light, then Rocky is left standing on the beach, alone.

Soon, the costumed Power Rangers are in the Power Chamber conversing with Dimitria and Alpha as Jason paces the floor under Kimberly's watchful eyes. With both of them still in swimsuits, she can easily see the muscles in Jason's body tense with every minute that passes........

"Jase, why don't you sit down with me? Pacing like that won't make things go any faster. The others are doing all they can to find Divatox's submarine......"

"I know, Kim" replies Jason, stopping to lean against the computer console next to Kimberly. "I just can't help myself. I mean, what's up with this Dimitria? She's always talkin' in riddles. And have you heard the rap comin' from that Alpha dude?! Man, I always thought Zack was bad!.........Y'know, I never thought I could miss Zordon and Alpha....our Alpha.......as much as I do right now!" He punctuates his frustration by slamming his fist against the console, causing the others to turn towards him.

"Jason?" asks Dimitria. "Do you think it wise to waste your energy in such a fashion? "

"I'm....sorry, Dimitria. I'm just not very good at standing around and waiting like this, I guess......"

"Yo, dude, don't let it getch'a down! I think we found somethin'!", chimes Alpha.

"What is it, Alpha?", asks Tommy.

"Well, since lookin' for Emily didn't do us any good, Dimitria suggested we do another scan, only this time lookin' for Jason's bio-signature.....And it worked! We've got somethin'!"

"But, Alpha, Jason's right here, with us. What good would that do?", asks Adam.

"Is it not logical to assume, Adam, that two people as close as Jason and Emily are might have......shared.......enough together that some of Jason's bio-signature remained with her?", answers Dimitria.

Jason suddenly feels his friend's eyes upon him. He notices Rocky grinning from ear to ear, and a smirk on Kimberly's face. Kat and Adam are both blushing, and Justin is just standing there, a look of confusion on his face.

"What?.........Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh! I get it!", Justin says, smiling.

"Listen, guys, we can debate my sex life later, okay? Let's just find Emily.....", Jason says, trying to hide his embarrassment.

Tommy steps forward. "Jase is right, guys. Alpha, where's the bio-signature coming from?"

"About 5 miles beneath Angel Grove Lake, dude.", replies Alpha.

Tommy wastes no time in stepping forward.

"Okay, let's do it! It's Morphin' Time!"

Meanwhile, on Divatox's submarine, images of the Power Rangers flicker across a screen in front of Emily. The girl, her arms held tight by two Piranhatrons, is forced to watch as the Power Rangers battle monster after monster. Then, a new combatant enters the scene, The Gold Ranger. Emily watches as he figths alongside the Rangers, saving them on more than one occasion. She cannot put her finger on it, but something about the hero in black seems.......familiar, somehow.

"Well, are we having fun yet, sweetie?", asks Divatox as she saunters into the room, one fist on her left hip as she walks over to the helpless blonde.

"Actually, yeah, I am...........I'm having a blast watching the guys who kicked your butt, you witch!"

Divatox responds with a hard slap across her captive's face.

"Don't get smart with me, brat! I may have had a few.........setbacks, but this time I've got them right.......where........I..........want them!"

Emily stares defiantly at the raving villainess, trying her best to keep up a brave front. Even as Divatox places the long, sharp point of her fingernail under the girl's chin and smiles evilly at her, Emily refuses to let her know how truly scared she is.

"So......So what makes this time so different?"

The smile across her face widens as Divatox removes her finger and steps over to the viewing screen.

"This time, dearie, I have you."

With a flourish, Divatox waves her hand across the screen just as the Gold Ranger comes into view. He stops, raises his wrist communicator to his chest and touches it with his other hand. Then, a cocoon of light opens above his head and slides down his body. As it reaches the ground, it disappears, leaving a very familiar young man standing where the Gold Ranger used to be. Emily's eyes widen.

"J-Jason??", she gasps.

As her eyes close, and a tear begins to trickle down her cheek. Biting her trembling lower lip, Emily hears Divatox's evil laugh echo off the metal walls of the ship.............

Suddenly, a loud crash is heard coming from the upper decks.

"What.....!?! Elgar! What's going on up there???", screams Divatox as she presses a button on the intercom.

"They're here, boss! The Power Rangers are here!"

"WHAT?!? That's impossible! I'm not ready for them yet!"

"Well, ain't that just too bad!", shouts Emily as she shifts her body weight and slams one of the Piranhatrons into Divatox, knocking them both off their feet. Wasting no time, she kicks the other in the face and finishes the job with a nearby wrench. Before running through the doorway, she cannot resist a parting word.

"Newsflash, Divatox. You don't hang out with a bunch of karate instructors or a gang of bikers without picking up something!"

As she races to meet her friends, she can hear Divatox screaming. "Get off me, you idiot!"

* * *

On the level above, the Turbo Rangers are fighting Divatox's minions while Jason and Kimberly try to locate Emily.

"C'mon, Kim, she's gotta be here somewhere!"

"I'm trying, Jason, but these computers are so....alien........it's hard to figure them out. Maybe if Billy were here............", replies Kim. Then, seeing the look of concern and frustration on her friend's face, she places a comforting hand on his left cheek. "But don't worry, Jase; we'll find her. I promise."

For a second, he smiles. Then, a Piranhatron grabs him in a bear hug from behind.

Tommy, fighting Elgar nearby, sees his best friend's predicament. Although he knows Jason can take care of himself, all the worry and sympathy he has felt for his friend suddenly erupts and Tommy slams into the Piranhatron holding Jason.

"Leave him alone, ugly!"

The Piranhatron doesn't know what hit him as he goes flying across the chamber.

Jason turns to face the Red Turbo Ranger, the two of them clasping hands.

"Thanks, bro. I owe you one."

Tommy smiles beneath his helmet. "Forget it, Jase. These fishbrains've put you and Emily through enough. They're not gonna hurt you any more if I can help it."

"Hey, guys, I know you're close and all, but could we get a little help here?"

Adam's teasing snaps Tommy and Jason into action.

"Man, Adam, I leave you alone for a minute.......", jokes Tommy.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, Jason smiles as he kicks a Piranhatron across the chin.

Nearby, Kat and Tanya have Rygorg on the ropes.

"Hyah! Take that, you overgrown Christmas ornament!"

The yellow Turbo Ranger's fist strikes hard against Rygorg's armor.

"That's it, Tanya! Keep him off balance!", shouts Kat as she lands a flying kick into the monster's face.

"Now, let's finish 'im off!" cries Justin, firing a beam of energy at Rygorg, finishing him.

Finally, only Elgar is left to face the seven teens.

"Hey, waitaminnit, gang! Can't we talk about this?", he pleads.

"Tell us where she is, Elgar. Where's Emily?", demands Jason through clenched teeth, his fists ready to pound the answer out of his foe.

"As you can see, Elgar, my buddy's almost out of patience. I'd tell him what he wants to know, if I were you.......", Tommy adds, also ready to renew the battle.

"Uh....uh........"

Suddenly, a figure brushes past Elgar and runs towards Jason.

"Emily!", cries the former Gold Ranger.

"Jason! I don't believe it! It is you!"

The two teenagers embrace, sharing a deep, passionate kiss.

"Are you okay?"

"Now that you're here, I am....", smiles Emily.

"I hate to interrupt, you guys, but, Emily, where's Divatox?", asks Tommy.

"I-I don't know. I thought she was right behind me. After I knocked out her two goons and knocked her to the floor, I just started running towards the fight....."

"YOU knocked out two Piranhatrons?!?", asks Adam incredulously.

"....and knocked Divatox to the floor?!? Awesome!", smiles Kimberly.

"Maybe she just decided to get away while she had the chance....", observes Katherine.

"Maybe she's not so tough after all, huh?" Jason asks, hugging Emily tight against him, his eyes shining with pride.

"I'll show you who's tough, Power geeks!"

Suddenly, Divatox is standing in the doorway behind Elgar, who is chuckling at this new development.

"It's her! Look out!", shouts Tanya.

The warning comes too late. Before any of them can move, Divatox aims her sceptre, and a red bolt of energy erupts from it, heading straight for Jason.

"Jason!!!", yells Tommy, but even as he moves to knock Jason out of the way, he knows he will never make it in time. Then, as the bolt of light is almost upon him, Emily's face suddenly appears in front of Jason, her eyes lovingly staring into his before they flare open in pain as the energy bolt strikes her bare back. Then, she collapses into his arms.

"Noooo!!!!", cries Jason. His knees almost buckle beneath him, but he eases the girl's body towards the floor until her head is resting in his lap. For a split-second, he considers joining his friends as they rush after the fleeing Divatox, but Emily's soft voice stops him.

"J-Jason?"

"I'm here, Em......I'm here. Don't worry; you're gonna be fine....."

Kimberly places a reassuring hand on her friend's strong shoulder. She stayed when the others chased after Divatox, knowing instinctively that Jason would need her more than the others would. But, as she sees the pain in Emily's eyes, Kimberly knows in her heart that there is not much anyone can do now.....

"No, Jason....I-I'm not.......", whispers Emily. Tears begin to well up in Jason's eyes. His voice cracks as he tries to reassure her.

"Listen........I'm not........I'm not gonna let you do this. I'm not lettin' you.....die on me......"

Emily winces momentarily as the pain increases. "Don't think.....you have a....choice, hon......."

"Why, damn it?! Why did you jump in front of me?!?" The tears flow freely down his face, now.

Kimberly cannot bear to watch Jason break down. Still keeping her hand on his shoulder, she turns her head and sobs softly into her other hand.

"Because, silly......I......had to.......protect you..........I............love you........" whispers Emily. "Besides.........the Rangers......need you..........", she smiles.

"The......The Rangers?!? You.......You knew?? How.....?"

"Divatox........unnh....told me...........Guess she thought......it'd....upset me........."

"Em, I would've told you.....I just......"

A slender index finger presses against his lips, silencing him.

"Shhhhhhh....It's okay, Jason.......I understand........I think I've....unnnhhh....always known, really......I'm....so proud of you........."

"Emily.....Please......don't leave me....."

"Wish I could....stay, baby.......Just........stay strong, okay?......You've always been......strong for everyone else........now you have to be..........unnnh.....strong for yourself..............And if you....need me......just remember..........I'll always be with you.........Whatever it takes........we'll always be....together......"

His body visibly shaking, eyes filled with tears, Jason gently raises her head up to his and whispers in her ear.

"I will always love you, Emily....always........"

"And I will......always love you, Jason.........Remember that......."

With one final kiss on his cheek, she is gone.

"Man! Guys, we lost her! She had some kind of mini-sub and....."

Kimberly raises her head, hearing Justin's words, but not really caring about what he is saying. Her tear-filled eyes meet Tommy's.

"Tommy......?", she says simply, pleadingly.

Tommy steps forward, staring in disbelief as he sees Jason huddled around Emily's lifeless body, sobbing uncontrollably, Kimberly's arms wrapped around his shoulders.

"Not now, Justin. Oh, God.....not now..........", whispers Tommy before rushing to his best friend's side.

Weeks later, Tommy, Kat, Rocky, Adam and Tanya are having lunch at the Juice Bar.

"I can't believe how quiet it's been lately."

"Yeah, Kat's right. It's like Divatox disappeared off the face of the Earth or something.....", says Rocky, trying to hold onto his favorite lunch, a "Beef Burger with everything".

"Yeah, well, don't count on it, Rocko. I'm sure......Hold on........."

"Tommy? What's wrong?", asks Tanya as she watches Tommy jump out of his chair and head for the door.

"Relax, Tanya. Look.........", says Adam, pointing to the three teens entering the Juice Bar.

"Kim! Zack! Trini! How is he?"

Kimberly sighs.

"Not good, Tommy. Even seeing Trini and Zack again hasn't snapped him out of it........"

"Yeah, man, I've never seen Jason like this! Guys, we've gotta help him!"

"There may not be much we can do, Zack", says Trini as she fondles a tiger charm that Jason had once given her. "This is something that Jason has to work through himself...."

Blocks away, a young man sits by his bedroom window and stares out at the beautiful Summer day, remembering an afternoon at the beach, not so very long ago. He remembers a woman with soft blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes, a woman he loved very much. She had a gentle , loving way, yet there was an obvious strength and fire burning within her. They were perfect together. He knows that she would hate to see him acting this way; sitting alone for hours at a time, afraid to go to sleep, cutting himself off from his friends and family. But right now, he can't seem to find the strength to help himself. He needs this time, to remember, to regret, and, most of all, to grieve. Someday, he knows, the pain will ease and he will be able to face the world again, but, for now, he needs to take this time to miss her. Then, a song begins playing somewhere outside. He can't see anyone nearby, but the music gets louder until he recognizes it as one of Emily's favorite songs, "If That's What It Takes" by Celene Dion.

You're the bravest of hearts, you're the strongest of souls
You're my light in the dark, you're the place I call home
You can say it's all right, but I know that you're breaking up inside
I see it in your eyes
Even you face the night afraid and alone
That's why I'll be there

When the storm rises up, when the shadows descend,
Ev'ry beat of my heart, ev'ry day without end
Ev'ry second I live, that's the promise I make
Baby, that's what I'll give, if that's what it takes
If that's what it takes

You can sleep in my arms, you don't have to explain
When your heart's crying out, baby, whisper my name
'Cause I've reached out for you when the thunder is crashing up above
You've given me your love
When you smile like the sun that shines through the pain
That's why I'll be there

When the storm rises up, when the shadows descend
Ev'ry beat of my heart, ev'ry day without end
I will stand like a rock, I will bend till I break
Till there's no more to give, if that's what it takes
I will risk everything, I will fight, I will bleed
I will lay down my life, if that's what you need
Ev'ry second I live, that's the promise I make
Baby, that's what I'll give, if that's what it takes

Through the wind and the rain, through the smoke and the fire
When the fear rises up, when the wave's ever higher
I will lay down my heart, my body, my soul
I will hold on all night and never let go
Ev'ry second I live, that's the promise I make
Baby, that's what I'll give, if that's what it takes

If that's what it takes
Every day
If that's what it takes
Every day

The song fades away just as suddenly as it started. He shakes his head and, for the first time in weeks, Jason smiles. It's almost as if he can feel her presence, here in his room. Like she's still with him, somehow. Wiping a tear from his cheek, he looks up into the clear blue sky.

"Thanks, Em. I love you, too."

Slow but determined, he slides off the windowsill and heads downstairs. As he bounds down the front steps of the house, he wonders if the gang is still at the Juice Bar...........
