Return to Power
by : Lucas Harrell

“Man, this is just plain boring,” Zack said, “When is Zordon going to find a way to get our rings back, besides having to get another Ranger?”

“No telling, Zack,” Trini said, “He said that it’s nearly impossible to get it, unless someone takes up the Green Lantern Ranger ring.”

“Zordon knows what he’s doing,” Billy agreed, “We should trust him, right?”

“Always,” Jason said, “Has anybody seen Kim or Tommy?”

“Out on yet another date, I’d say,” Zack said, “That’s the third one this week already.”

Tommy and Kim were walking close to the duck pond, in the park. “Why did you want me to meet you here, instead of the Youth Center?” Kim asked.

“I just wanted to get some time to ourselves,” Tommy said, “Barely anyone comes here this time of day.” He helped her up onto the platform, where they had shared their first kiss. They liked to come here a lot, to make out. He jumped up onto it after she was sitting comfortably.

“So, what’s on your mind?” Kim asked.

“I’ve been having some weird dreams lately,” Tommy said.

“What about?”

“Nightmares, mostly,” Tommy replied, “From not doing anything when Goldar raped you.”

“It wasn’t your fault, baby,” Kim said, “They had a blade to your throat. I’m the one who let that scum do that. But if I hadn’t, you would’ve been killed. I’m just glad that, for once, they kept their end of the bargain, and let you go after he raped me. Don’t dwell on it.”

“I can’t help it, Kim,” Tommy said. All of a sudden, a green glow permeated Tommy’s body.

“Tommy? What’s happening?”

“I don’t know, Kim,” Tommy said, “I feel like I’m...” Then, he just suddenly collapsed.

“Tommy,” Kim shrieked, rushing to his side. She tried to revive him, but he was out cold. She brought her communicator up to her lips. “Zordon, something’s happened to Tommy. Bring us to the Command Center, right away.” Then, she looked at Tommy, who hadn’t stirred. “It’ll be all right, baby.” She sat down and cradled his head in her lap. A few minutes later, the two were swept up in pink and green flashes, respectively.

A few minutes later, Tommy was on an examination table, and Alpha was scanning him with an instrument. “This is very strange,” Alpha said, “There seems to be a lot of residual Green Lantern morphin’ energy in him.”

“How could that be?” Kim asked, “He gave up the ring months ago That shouldn’t be there, should it?”

“No, it shouldn’t, Kimberly,” Zordon said, “It seems that his body wanted to compensate for the lack of life-force, and used the nearest energy source while he was the Green Lantern Ranger.”

“Which would be his ring,” Kim said softly, “Wait. Didn’t you say that a person with morphin’ energy could go into that dimension where Rita holds our rings?”

“That I did,” Zordon said, “I think I know what you have in mind, but I can’t condone it. I can not put Tommy at risk like that.” Kim scowled up at the floating head.

Tommy groaned, and Kim was at his side instantly. “It’s my choice, Zordon,” Tommy said, as he slowly got off of the table and got to his feet. “And I choose to go after the rings.”

“All right then, Tommy,” Zordon said, “If you insist. It seems that you have enough morphin’ energy in you to actually morph, though you won’t have any real special abilities.”

“Any port in the storm,” Tommy said. He looked at Kim. “I’ll be back, I swear it.”

“I know you will,” Kim said. She threw her arms around his neck and gave him a long, drawn out passionate kiss.

“For luck,” she said when they broke for air.

“Thanks, beautiful,” Tommy said, giving her another, quick kiss. Then, he broke away from her hug. “What do I do to morph, Zordon?”

“You concentrate, and find the power inside of you,” Zordon said, “I have to warn you. There is no telling what kind of side effects this could have on you.”

Tommy’s jaw was set. “Let’s do it,” he said stubbornly. He then closed his eyes and looked for the Green Lantern morphin’ energy inside of him. He found it, and all of a sudden, he felt a surge of energy shoot through him.

A bright, green light invaded the Command Center, emanating from Tommy. “Zordon,” Kim said, “What’s going on?”

“Tommy is calling to the power,” Zordon said, awestruck.

Then, the light dissipated, and Tommy stood as the Green Lantern Ranger once again. “Wow, that was amazing,” Tommy said, “I never felt anything like it.”

“Congratulations on once again being a Ranger, Tommy,” Zordon said, “Prepare for teleport.”

“Right, Zordon,” Tommy said. He braced himself and was washed away in a flurry of green light.

“Good luck, baby,” Kim said softly.

“Tommy will be all right, Kimberly,’ Zordon said, “Just have faith in him.”

“I do, Zordon,” Kim said, “I think I’ll wait here for him to come back. Is that all right with you?”

“That’ll be fine, Kim,” Zordon said, “If you’ve told you mother about you being a Ranger, you better tell her that you might be late tonight. There’s no telling when Tommy is coming back.”

“Right,” Kim said, “I’ll be right back.” With that, she teleported to her house, where she found her mother. “Hey, mom.”

“Oh hi, Kim,” Ms. Ferris said, “How are you feeling, sweetie? You were sick all morning.”

“I know, but I’m all right now,” Kim said, “Look, Tommy’s gone on a mission for us, and I want to be there when he gets back, so I might be late.”

“Try not to be too late, Kim,” Ms. Ferris said, “You need your rest, if you don’t want to get sick again.” ‘Though that may be too late,’ Ms Ferris thought.

“I’ll try not to be, mom,” Kim said. With a wave, she teleported out.

‘I’d better be getting used to the idea of being a grandma,’ Ms. Ferris thought with a sigh.

When Tommy was released from the teleportational beam, he found himself in very strange surroundings. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear this was a cartoon,” he said. All around him were giant mushrooms and grass. “Man, this place is really weird. And creepy.”

All of a sudden, a rabbit came hopping out of nowhere. This was no ordinary rabbit. “No way,” Tommy said, “The bunny from Alice in Wonderland?” The rabbit picked up speed as it hopped along.

“I’m late, I’m late,” it said, “For a very important date.”

‘Yep, that’s what the bunny said in the story,’ Tommy thought, ‘So I’m in Wonderland. I’ve got to remember to tell Zordon to save this dimensions code. Kim would love this place.’

The rabbit hopped out of view. All of a sudden, a plant nearby Tommy grew to zord like proportions. He sensed it behind him and spun around. “Whoa,” he said, “Now that’s a plant with a giant attitude problem.” The plant dove for him. Before he could do anything, he was swallowed by it. In it’s “belly” he found an interesting ornate box, surrounded by a force field.

“I’m betting that the rings are in there,” he said. He went over to the box and started to lift it, and he got a big shock, but he wouldn’t let go. All of a sudden, he could feel his power absorbing the force fields energy into him. It was too much for him, and he barely had enough time to teleport himself before collapsing from shock.

“Tommy,” Kim shrieked running to him. His eyes opened.

“I did it,” he said. He started to get up, but Kim stopped him.

“Whoa there, Tommy,” she said, “Take it easy.”

Tommy handed her the box. “Whatever you say, beautiful,” he replied, “Here’s your rings.” Kim opened the box and gasped when she did indeed find the rings inside.

“Zordon?”

“Those are the real rings, Kimberly,” Zordon said, “Take yours up and give the others back theirs.”

“Right,” Kim said, slipping her old power ring back on her finger, where it belonged.

A little while later, Kim and Tommy were outside of the Youth Center. “I’ll go inside and get the guys,” Tommy said, “That way, we won’t run the risk of someone seeing the rings.”

“Right,” Kim agreed. Tommy stepped inside. It didn’t take him long to find the others. He motioned them to come outside.

“Tommy, what’s up?” Zack asked.

“Well, we’ve got some good news for you,” Tommy said, “Two pieces of good news in face. For one, I’m the Green Lantern Ranger again, though it’s going to be very temporarily. Two...”

“Two, we’ve got the rings back,” Kim said, stepping into view and opening the box. The others slipped their rings on quickly. “Zordon okayed them, so they’re the real deals. Tommy went to some other dimension to get them.”

“Thanks, bro,” Jason said, “Fighting Rita without our powers were cool, but I definitely prefer it with powers.” With that, he put his hand out in front of him.

Tommy was the first to put his on top of Jason’s. Then Kim. One by one, the others did too. Then, they all jumped into the air, yelling...

“LANTERN RANGERS!!!”

The End... for now
